How do I best bid at auctions for impounded cars to actually keep the price low?
Q. I am trying to get a cheap car (no budget). Have heard these auctions might be the best deal.
Asked by Jenny - Fri Oct 2 14:56:52 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi Jenny, contrary to the other answer you got here, you actually do NOT need a dealer's license at most government & police auctions held for impounded cars. Yes, there are some restricted to dealers, but not the majority. I have had real good luck with some auctions, and I would say about 50% of the cars were actually pretty new and in really good shape. (I guess because the cars were seized from drug dealers or something :) To answer your question directly: to keep the bids low, you have to wait til just before the auctioneer settles the auction to place your bid. Only go with the next incrementation (usually $100 at these auctions). Make sure you know in what shape the car is, in and out (get somebody knowledgeable with you, in… [cont.]

How are fees charged by paypal and ebay on penny auctions?
Q. How are fees charged by ebay and paypal for penny auctions? Ebay normally takes something like a 9% final value fee and I think paypal takes 3%-4% of whatever goes into your paypal account. How do they handle penny auctions? Do you get like 0.4 cents or how does that work?
Asked by Chicagodudeman Chicago - Sun May 23 23:08:31 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi, try this calculator, I often use it to sell feedbacks on penny auctions. (old fees calculator before May 2010) To get 4 cents profit after eBay and Paypal (old)fees, your item sale price should be $0.44 (44 cents). (New fees calculator) To get 4 cents profit after eBay and Paypal (new) fees, your item sale price should be $0.39 (44 cents). Good luck. EBay powerseller: mart-1company (www.mart-1.com)

A. You can always check the local legal adds. I live in Georgia and we have a site called georgiapublicnotice.com. Look at your local tax assessor's website, or check out your local newspaper online, maybe your state has a similar site.

How can I find out about upcoming car auctions in my area?
Q. Im looking to buy a car and would like to go to an auction. Ive heard that you can get good cars for less than a grand at auctions. And another thing what about these car auctions that are online that want you to pay membership fees, are they legit?? Im in desperate need of a vehicle ASAP!!! Thanx
Asked by Mizundastood - Thu Jul 24 05:47:14 2008 - - 3 Answers - 2 Comments

A. There are all kinds of car auctions -- dealer auctions (must have dealer's license), public auctions, police auctions, repo auctions, government auctions, and so on. Here's an article with more details: The web sites that offer directories of such auctions are mostly legit but their data may be limited or out of date. So, if you buy, make sure they have a money-back guarantee in case you are not happy with the service.

Live in CA, want to start going to car auctions to buy cars What type of license do I need and how do I get it
Q. I know there are car auctions where only people with some certain licenses are allowed to go in. They can bring guests and all purchases even though by the guests are done through them, that is, under their license. They do not have like a lot or anything like that. What type of license is this and how can I obtain it.
Asked by Zuzu - Mon Mar 17 21:01:10 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In CA it depends on where you will be selling them. If you want to buy at auction and sell to dealers, or recon adn reauction the cars, you can get a wholesalers license. On that license you are allowed up to 5 cars per year retail. If your intention is to sell them to the general public, then you need a retail dealers license. You can get all the details, and requiremetns for each license on the CA DMV website here:

A. They can be a good deal if you have the cash and are willing to buy sight unseen. Might be a good idea to go to a couple of auctions to familiarize yourself with the process, or team up with an experienced buyer.

How do ebay and paypal take their % when you sell auctions at a penny?
Q. When you do penny auctions for screen savers, etc how does ebay and paypal take their cut? Ebay now has the free listings if your auction is under $1 so it doesnt cost you to list but paypal takes 2.9% of transactions and ebay I believe takes 9%. If you sell an auction that ends at a penny how do they take their %?

A. Also, you need to be aware that there are restrictions on digital products like screensavers. ebay does have rules about what you can and can't sell regarding digital products and you need to be aware of them and follow them:

What is the best way to get eBayers to submit their auctions to me for free advertising?
Q. Our site AuctionGab.net currently has more than 500 eBay members that use our free services. We advertise their auctions for free. But are now looking for more eBayers to submit their auctions to us for free advertising. I have been trying to spread the word on free auction advertising through Yahoo Groups, but am relatively new to this. Suggestions? Thanks! Gabber

A. Why don't you set-up an e-bay store or somthing and "sell" your services there. It can be as low as a penny, but if you want eBayers, go to eBay.

How should I deal with a broker who sells cars bought from auctions?
Q. A close friend of mine said he would like to introduce me to a local garage that sells cars bought from auctions. (I suppose the correct term to use is "a broker"). Apparently, cars sold this way can be reasonably cheap, and the broker in question also owns a garage that can repair the cars when necessary. As this is a close friend, I don't want to refuse, saying I'll meet the broker, although I don't really know how honest the broker is. Do you have any advice?
Asked by lankhai2006 - Mon Mar 16 12:51:13 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Buy an extended warranty from a third party and consider that part of the purchase price. If the two add up to more than you are willing to spend, then it is not a good deal. Insist on a carfax report that shows all inscurance claims made for the VIN of the vehicle. Cars bought at auction could have serious frame damage, water or smoke damage too. Great that the guy can fix the cars, but unless you get something in writing that says he will do it for free it doesn't mean a thing. EDIT: He is a middle man, you can pay a small fee and buy a car at an auction and eliminate the middle man mark up if you want to do your homework. Either way inquire about an extended warranty first and call that part of the 'price'.

How much do cars cost at dealer auctions?
Q. How much cheaper are they compared to auctions open to the public? How much below retail value are they? What would be an average price for a 90's model car like a honda or nissan?
Asked by Avacodo - Wed Mar 31 18:37:00 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cars tend to bring "wholesale" at auctions. You pay RETAIL on the street. On low end cars like you are talking about they often make at least $800 and up to $1200-1500 profit per car. But sometimes the dealers will repair some things. Car dealers, like any other business make profit. It costs $2.50 to make a pizza that people pay $10-15 for. From that perspective, cars are cheap.

A. I recommend selling high end items, such as electronics (unique), there are some suppliers you can get a hold of. Just go to my profile and send me an email. Because there are certain things that you have to consider, shipping cost, if you're importing, paying customs, etc.
