Should the rear wheels on my 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i spin freely while in park with the car off?
Q. I have an 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i with an automatic transmission and when I have a rear wheel on a jack it spins freely but the front wheels don't. The car is in park and off and I can't figure out why the rear wheels aren't locked like the front wheels. Both rear wheels spin freely. Should putting the car into park lock all 4 wheels without using the emergency brake?
Asked by Corbet P - Fri Jun 4 19:39:26 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There is a built in bias to front wheel drive. That is where the most weight and the most traction is. So there is more slip in the rear wheels and differential when nothing is really going on. However, should your same car be having trouble making a grade in slippery conditions the control modules would throw more bias than usual to the rear to get the job done. Putting the car in park should not lock the front and rear completely. And Subaru does it best.

A. The clip that holds the axle in the rear end housing broke, You need to have someone who knows what they are doing to fix it. This is not a simple thing to do like changing spark plugs.

A. Depends on where you live. I used to live in southern California, and there was a mobile auto glass company that replaced windshields right at your place of business or your home. Many windshields cost in the range of $100 from this company, while other auto repair shops charged $400 and up for the same thing. Make a few phone calls via your yellow pages to get an idea.

How long did you keep your child rear facing in the car seat?
Q. I didn't realize so many people keep their kids rear facing until I rode with 2 moms who had sons older than mine were rear facing. I told them my son had been forward facing since 10 months and they almost fainted (seriously not joking) he is 18 months and 36 inches and 27 lbs. Should I turn him back around?
Asked by Jane Doe - Fri Mar 26 13:22:51 2010 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Check the law in your state This web site was just updated this month and has the most accurate info out there. In Florida there is no rear-facing requirement. I tuned my son forward facing at 10 months also. Safety recommendations are 12 months and 20 pounds, but trust your judgment. Many are now keeping kids rear facing until age 2, but that seems a little extreme to me.

How do you get access to the rear Vents above the engine and below the rear window?
Q. I've recently purchases a 1969 VW Beetle which has had an engine fire, and I'm trying to find the best way to get between the external vent (below the rear window), and the vent above the engine. This area has been damaged by the fire and the metal work requires work to remove rust, and repaint.

A. I dont think there is an easy access to that area. Only a small handhole above the engine compartment. You may have to cut out the vents and then re-weld them back in after you do the repair work. .

A. Replace the fuel injection nozzle in the cylinder in the that's been burning-up spark plug electrodes. Have them professionally cleaned at your Ford dealership. Always use Motorcraft Platinum plugs in Ford products and keep them changed every 50,000 miles. If the ignition wires haven't been changed in the past 50,000 replace with AC-Delco, MSD or high dollar Motorcraft.

A. there's an old hillbilly trick to keep your window up when it wants to fall down and you can't fix it. You get a wood shim and jamb it into the bottom of the window. For the Deluxe version you trim off the excess wood that's sticking up. For the super Deluxe version you tint the wood a dark color so nobody knows.
